As a coach I have heard a long list of excuses from people on why they either haven’t made progress OR don’t have the time to invest in themselves.

I have also coached women who work 12-hour nurse shifts and still make the gym OR have 3 kids under 5 and still make their training and nutrition priority, OR women who work 8-6pm jobs and lift at 7pm.

The moral of the story is. If you wanted to, you’d find a way.

POV: you come to me as your coach after a bad training day/week ✨

There is honestly never a week when I haven’t had a client come to be after a bad session or after missing prescribed weights and completely want to throw in the towel.

It’s normal and happens more often than you’d think.

My response is always the same, give yourself a moment. Take whatever time you need, process what’s happened, realise it’s a moment and leave it where it should stay, in the past.

One bad session or one bad week doesn’t not cancel out all your hard work or progress. Continue to showing up after bad sessions, continuing to believe in your goals, these things are what makes progress ‼️

Not every session is going to be a 10/10. There will be more days of weights feeling heavy, you missing lifts or your energy being low, compared to days when everything clicks.

What if you quit when those bad days happened?
What if you threw in the towel and said it’s too hard every time you failed?
Would you make progress? Would you achieve your goals?

I have failed more lifts than I can count, every time I fail a lift it’s frustrating, I’m annoyed and I have to take a moment and re-group mentally. I accept that I am pushing beyond my limits, that I am pushing both my mind and my body in certain ways to be stronger, fitter and more resilient.

I keep showing up. I keep pushing forward and working hard. I don’t let a missed lift or a bad session equate to who I am as an athlete. When you keep showing up, progress happens. You make those weights you once failed, have those eye-opening moments and prove to yourself that you are capable!

Progress always wins over perfection.
Remind yourself the journey isn’t linear, take note of the lessons you learn during those bad sessions, they will give you the tools to continue achieving your goals.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learnt over the last 2 years is that sometimes the path you felt was for you, isn’t always the right one. Sometimes the greatest opportunities you can have are the ones that are completely away from the direction you felt you had to go in.

I almost gave it all up.

Keep damn showing up.

It sounds really cliche and simple, and maybe it is, but, it is one of the simplest if not THE simplest way to achieve your dream results. Showing up means being present with intention in all domains of your health; physical, emotional and mental. You’re not going to have 10/10 intensity and motivation throughout your health journey but, if you can set an intention and show up in whatever capacity you have to meet that intention, you will be met with success.

Helen trains 3x a week at LXV FIT, does she have motivation every session, nope, does she feel strong every session, nope, but, does she show up with the intention of giving it all she has got on that specific day, absolutely she does. Don’t be afraid to take a break.

Taking 2-months off to travel was the best decision I could have made for my health and fitness progress!
Grinding it out every day in the gym, being over-consumed with how I looked, wondering if I was eating enough and comparing myself, all these things were at the fore-front of my mind constantly.

Taking 2-months off to travel was the best decision I could have made for my health and fitness progress!
Grinding it out every day in the gym, being over-consumed with how I looked, wondering if I was eating enough and comparing myself, all these things were at the fore-front of my mind constantly.

One of the biggest things that used to hold me back on my journey was always thinking I wasn’t small enough, worthy enough or deserving of enough! This impacted both my physical and mental health is so many negative ways.

18 year old Lara was over-training, not eating, severely anxious, in an emotionally abusive relationship and didn’t believe she was worthy of much.

Now… 24 year old Lara trains to feel strong and happy, fuels her body with nutritious food, has built a successful business, knows her worth and is living life for herself and her dreams ✨

Hands up who gets called out for their physique being ‘genetic’ without any thought that it could be because you work hard 🙋🏼‍♀️

9 times out of 10 the physically toned girl or guy you see walking down the street are training hard, eating for fuel/performance, recovering their bodies and smashing their frickin’ goals!

It is also a cop out to say you’re not someone who can build a toned physique because your ‘genetics don’t allow it’, sorry to tell you this is just a BS excuse to not work hard.

Anyone is capable of showing up, putting the work in consistently and getting 11/10 results. When I say consistently I’m not saying 4-6 months I’m saying 2-3 years+. It’s taken me 2 years to see some major change in my physique and that contributed to my training, recovery and nutrition.

One of the greatest mind-set shifts I created for myself for 2025 was “Showing up for myself”

Seems pretty self-explanatory yes, however, in the ups and downs of life the reason why you started training can get lost in the process. The lines can become blurred and training or going to the gym because a hassle/chore compared to a tool used to help you create your best self!

I show up everyday, not expecting immediate results but because I want to be better for myself. To prove my capabilities to myself and prove that even when people doubt you, or life knocks you back, if you continue to show up for yourself, there’s nothing you’re not capable of achieving!

Eat the damn carbs girl!

It has been said by many many of my clients that they always thought carbs = fat gain.

I am here to say that is absolute BS!
Fat gain comes from over consuming calories based on your maintenance or caloric output.

Carbohydrates are your bodies MAIN source of energy! Why would we try and deprive our bodies of its main fuel source whilst simultaneously trying to improve our fitness, strength + health?

Trust me when I say I understand how convincing all the no-carb, protein only fad diets can be, I too have fallen victim to them! However, think about this, if you were trying to fuel a car on a barely fuelled up tank, how far would you get before the quality and function of the car gives out?

Don’t run away from one of the most important things that could help you level TF up in both your training and over-all well-being.

Walk into a session energised, lift heavy AF in all sessions, feel confident and powerful in the gym and watch your body regulate and become more enhanced once it’s correctly fuelled.

Growth, whether that be physical or mental, comes from being uncomfortable, putting yourself in a situation that you could possible fail at, and learning to be okay if you do in-fact fail.
It is truely rare that you will do something for the first time and get it 100%. That relates to all aspects of your life. We all have to be okay starting out not knowing what to do or not being good at something.
The way you build resilience and discover how capable you are is by being okay with not being strong at something, failing at something or not understanding something, and having the open-mindedness and inner confidence to continue working at it until you start to see those changes.

Reflect on something in your life you may have backed away from out of fear of not being good or failing at it. Ask yourself whether doing that has potentially lessened the opportunities or growth you could have made in your life.

Don’t run away from hard, run towards it with open arms and learn, like LXV FIT girls do, that not being good at something is a tool used to empower.
